As David continues fleeing Jerusalem because of Absalom’s rebellion, he encounters both kindness and hostility. Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, brings food and supplies for David and his followers but accuses Mephibosheth of remaining in Jerusalem in hopes of reclaiming Saul’s kingdom. David accepts Ziba’s report and gives him all that belonged to Mephibosheth.

Later, Shimei, a relative of Saul, curses David, throws stones at him, and blames him for the downfall of Saul’s family. Although Abishai wants to kill Shimei, David refuses and humbly accepts that God may be allowing the cursing. David continues his journey weary but trusting that the Lord may repay him with good for the suffering he endures.

Meanwhile, Absalom enters Jerusalem, and Hushai convinces him that he has come to serve the new king. Ahithophel then advises Absalom to publicly take David’s concubines, fulfilling Nathan’s earlier prophecy and making the division between Absalom and David unmistakable.

Main theme: David faces deception, humiliation, and suffering with restraint and humility, while Absalom strengthens his rebellion through sinful actions and ungodly counsel.
