Peter, writing one of his final letters before his death, offers a practical roadmap for building a faith that lasts.
He calls believers to cultivate a growing list of qualities: goodness, knowledge of God, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. These qualities must be present in increasing measure, not as a one-time checklist but as a lifelong pursuit.
Without them, believers become spiritually nearsighted, making decisions without considering their long-term impact on faith and character. The Holy Spirit is essential to this process, because without Him, these qualities are nothing more than a self-improvement plan.
Confession also plays a vital role, clearing away the debris of unaddressed sin before it quietly accumulates. Even those who have stumbled are not disqualified. God is able to restore, forgive, and make us stand in His presence with great joy.
