Apparently God can teach me through just about anything these days. This time? A luggage scale.
I know...I didn't see that one coming either. As I was packing for our next hiking trip, God reminded me that while He gave us hearts full of compassion, He never asked us to carry the weight of the whole world.
Maybe that's why so many of us are exhausted. Not because we've stopped caring. Because we've been carrying more than we were ever meant to.
In this week's Summer of Sabbath: Revisited episode, we're talking about protecting our capacity, setting the suitcase down, and discovering why Sabbath is one of God's kindest gifts.

Here’s a small excerpt: “And I wonder if that's why so many of us feel numb; why so many of us tune out. We assume compassion disappears because we've stopped caring. But I don't think that's usually true. Compassion disappears because we're exhausted. We've exceeded our capacity.”
