Panel-2 Child & Family Safety 2026
In this powerful panel conversation, we explore Aboriginal leadership, family violence prevention, online safety for young people, and the importance of genuine partnership with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.
The discussion brings forward honest voices from the frontline, including the role of men in preventing violence, why violence against women and children is not part of culture, and how Aboriginal organisations are leading complex work in justice, child protection, housing, homelessness, mental health, and community safety.
We also hear the inspiring story of a young Tiwi artist whose artwork became part of a national online safety book, helping children and families have difficult but important conversations about internet dangers, predators, scams, and image-based abuse.
Panellists we have:-
1- Demaga Warria, Artist, Tiwi Islands
2- Asha Bhat OAM, CEO, Southern Aboriginal Corporation
3- Sarah Austin, Director, Darwin Youth Services
4- Oscar Colbung, Deputy CEO, Family Violence Prevention Legal Service (FVPLS) Program, Southern Aboriginal Corporation (SAC)
This conversation is about culture, safety, healing, leadership, and the need to work alongside Aboriginal communities, not make decisions for them.
Watch the full discussion to understand why real change starts with listening, respect, and genuine partnership.
