What does it take to show up for others for four decades, and still find the courage to admit you were not always showing up for yourself?Steve Moresi grew up in a small rural country town with no big-time facilities and no city lights. Just a kid with a love for sport and a fire that would not go out. What followed was a lifetime of service. Thirty-three years as a physical education teacher, including serving as Head of Department at a large private school. Forty years of coaching across basketball, triathlon, volleyball, and martial arts. And a trophy cabinet that includes the National School Boys Basketball Championship, Big V Coach of the Year, multiple VJBL titles, and a bronze medal at the Sydney World Masters Games in 2009.He has coached World Triathlon champion Joanne King and World Duathlon champion Leon Griffin, two world champions in two different sports. He is a life member of the Myths and Legends Basketball Club, recognised for more than 20 years of exemplary service. And beyond the wins and the podiums, Steve has spent time working with Headspace, Sport Integrity Australia, and Anglicare, supporting young people in residential care. That is who this man is when no one is keeping score. But what sits at the heart of this conversation is something far more personal. Steve is honest about the fact that self-care and asking for support were not areas where he excelled. He shares his FFP framework, Friends, Family, and Professionals, as a practical guide for anyone who has been carrying too much on their own. He talks about finding his tribe through Masters Basketball and why connection is not optional, it is essential. And he still struggles today. That honesty alone makes this conversation worth your time. This is Part 1 of a conversation that carries real weight.Welcome to Basketball Month here on Leading Our Own Way.
