Step onto the Via Egnatia in the mid-first century, and you would feel the electric pulse of Thessalonica. As the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia, this was a city of sensory extremes. To your left, the tang of salt air drifts from a favorable, prominent seaport crowded with merchant vessels.

To your right, the staggering height of Mount Olympus—the Greek Pantheon—looms in keen sight across the water. The air is thick with the dust of the circus and the roar of the amphitheater, where a multiplicity of gladiator events provided blood-soaked amusement for the citizens.

This was a walled city, encircled by a great wall and a population of over 200,000. It was a place of immense prosperity and "manifold wickedness." Yet, in this epicenter of Roman power and pagan worship, an "effervescent and invigorating" message took root. How did a call to "sanctification and honor" thrive in such a chaotic capital? The answer lies in a letter that remains as commanding today as it was two millennia ago.

The history of the Thessalonian church is a testament to the power of a faith that "abounds and grows" despite affliction. The letter’s final charge is a call to total immersion: to be "sober, be ready, be sanctified & BE SAVED."

We are reminded that this ancient Epistle was written to ensure that the "TRUE WORSHIPPERS" would not be "easily mislead or tossed to and from."

In this episode, we take a deep dive into the book of 1 Thessalonians, knowing that The Day of the Lord is Coming. As you await His coming, know that Faith in God is not a private matter to be hidden behind the "great walls" of our own comfort. Our belief must be represented within our daily lifestyle; we are commanded to "live it out loud" as we look forward to that Great DAY.

Jesus is getting us ready for that Great Day. Who shall be able to stand?
