This week, the Pod Squad discusses Episode 10: Suspicious Minds, the ways the Winchesters is improving on its forebearer in queer representation and how it addresses trauma, but also explore how there is still further to go in actually depicting queer people. We LOVE Lata’s everything, want to see more of the Carlos/Anton storyline, and debate at length how Akrida possession works. KJ is VERY concerned for Lata’s new extracurriculars (ala Sam Winchester in Season 4), Beth paints a vivid picture of giant bug carcasses, and August is intrigued by the way that John’s spiral into darkness is being portrayed.

We take some time to talk about the issues of representation in the writing choices around a Golem, medical experimentation, death of a Black character off-screen, and how the way this storyline is written brings this episode way down in tone in ways that feel both unnecessary and irredeemable.

Finally, we talk about Mary’s “Stanford Era”, the potential for family conflict (and what she should study!), how the writers room really needs an excel spreadsheet specifically for the Men of Letters, and how THE AKRIDA KNOW DEAN IS HERE AND MAYBE WE WILL SEE HIM SOON?
