She won two awards, the Tohu Eke Panuku — Human Rights Commission Award for Impact and the Tohu Manukura i te Reo — Māori Language Commission Award for Te Reo Māori. We discussed the impact of Palestinian and Aotearoa New Zealand culture on her maturing into the positive person she is and her experience on the West Bank of Palestine's resilient and vibrant culture, which reminds one of the olive tree with its resilience and fruitfulness.
