Born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton (now New London), Prince Edward Island, Canada, Lucy Maud Montgomery rose to international acclaim during her lifetime, placing both her home province and Canada firmly on the world literary stage. While she is best known for the beloved Anne of Green Gables series, Montgomery was also a gifted writer of short stories and poetry, amassing an impressive collection of around 500 short stories and poems, along with twenty novels before her passing in 1942.
