It commemorates Marie-Louise Levasseur (1811–1892), a prominent businesswoman originally from Trois-Rivières who later seMled in Bécancour. In the 19th century, she owned a flour mill, two sawmills, as well as a toll bridge, and employed approximately 150 workers in the 1860s
