After Indra killed Diti’s sons, she prayed for a child powerful enough to defeat him. Sage Kashyapa granted her wish, provided she followed a strict vow throughout her pregnancy. When Diti accidentally broke the vow, Indra entered her womb and split the fetus into many pieces with his thunderbolt. But instead of dying, the pieces became the Maruts, powerful storm gods who eventually became Indra’s own companions.

After Lord Narasimha defeated the demon Hiranyakashipu, his divine fury did not subside. Concerned for the balance of the universe, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva for help.

Lord Shiva then manifested as Sharabha, a powerful mythical being described as having the combined attributes of a lion and a great bird. Sharabha confronted Narasimha, and after their divine encounter, Narasimha’s intense rage was calmed, restoring peace and cosmic balance.

Vishnu’s Narasimha Avatar tells the powerful story of Lord Vishnu’s fourth incarnation, who appeared as the half-man, half-lion Narasimha to protect his devoted follower Prahlada and defeat the tyrant king Hiranyakashipu. This timeless tale of faith, courage, and divine justice reminds us that righteousness always triumphs over evil.

The demon king Hiranyaksha became extremely powerful and spread chaos throughout the universe. He dragged the Earth (Bhudevi) into the depths of the cosmic ocean, throwing creation into disorder. To save the world, Vishnu took the form of Varaha, a giant divine boar. Varaha dived into the cosmic ocean, found the Earth, and lifted her on His tusks. As Varaha was bringing the Earth back, Hiranyaksha challenged Him to a fierce battle. They fought for a long time, shaking the heavens and the oceans. In the end, Varaha defeated and killed Hiranyaksha, ending his tyranny.

After the victory, Varaha restored the Earth to its rightful place, bringing peace and balance back to the universe.

During the great deluge, Vishnu took the form of the Matsya (fish) avatar and saved Vaivasvata Manu. After the flood, Lord Matsya taught Manu about creation, righteousness (dharma), and various aspects of life. These teachings later became known as the Matsya Purana.

The Prachetas, ten sons of King Prachinabarhi, performed long austerities to please Vishnu. After emerging from meditation, they found the earth covered by forests and began destroying the trees in anger. The Moon god Soma intervened and offered them Marisha, a maiden connected to the forest. The Prachetas married her, and their son Daksha became a great progenitor of life. The story highlights the balance between spiritual practice, nature, and the responsibility of sustaining

According to the Puranas, King Prithu found that the Earth had stopped producing food, causing famine among people. He challenged and pursued the Earth, who had taken the form of a cow. Earth explained that she was withholding her bounty because of disorder and injustice.

After Prithu restored righteousness and proper governance, Earth agreed to provide grains, crops, and other resources again. In gratitude and honor of King Prithu’s role in restoring prosperity, the Earth came to be known as Prithvi, meaning “the Earth associated with Prithu.”

In their previous births, Gajendra was King Indradyumna and the crocodile was the Gandharva Huhu. Both had been cursed by sages and were ultimately liberated by Lord Vishnu’s grace.
