  • The story of Vishnu’s Varaha Avatar

    The demon king Hiranyaksha became extremely powerful and spread chaos throughout the universe. He dragged the Earth (Bhudevi) into the depths of the cosmic ocean, throwing creation into disorder. To save the world, Vishnu took the form of Varaha, a giant divine boar. Varaha dived into the cosmic ocean, found the Earth, and lifted her on His tusks. As Varaha was bringing the Earth back, Hiranyaksha challenged Him to a fierce battle. They fought for a long time, shaking the heavens and the oceans. In the end, Varaha defeated and killed Hiranyaksha, ending his tyranny.

    After the victory, Varaha restored the Earth to its rightful place, bringing peace and balance back to the universe.

  • The Earth got his name ‘Prithvi’

    According to the Puranas, King Prithu found that the Earth had stopped producing food, causing famine among people. He challenged and pursued the Earth, who had taken the form of a cow. Earth explained that she was withholding her bounty because of disorder and injustice.

    After Prithu restored righteousness and proper governance, Earth agreed to provide grains, crops, and other resources again. In gratitude and honor of King Prithu’s role in restoring prosperity, the Earth came to be known as Prithvi, meaning “the Earth associated with Prithu.”
