कस्मिंश्चित् गुरुकुले पञ्च शिष्याः अध्ययनं कुर्वन्ति स्म । तेषु कश्चन अन्धः सन् महता यत्नेन अध्ययनं करोति स्म । कदाचित् गुरुः अपृच्छत् 'जगति बलवत्तमं वस्तु किं स्यात्?’ इति । प्रथमः शिष्यः शस्त्रम्, द्वितीयः अयः, तृतीयः अग्निः, चतुर्थः जलम् इति यथाक्रमम् अवदन् । अन्धशिष्येन कथितम् 'बाह्यजगति स्युः नैकानि बलवत्तमवस्तूनि । किन्तु तेषां सर्वेषां भौतिकवस्तूनाम् अपेक्षया बलवत्तमं च भवति 'दृढसङ्कल्पः' । अयं शस्त्रं निगृह्णाति, अयः द्रवीकरोति, अग्निं शमयति, जलं च बाष्पीकृत्य आकाशं प्रति प्रेषयति' इति । अनेन उत्तरेण अन्धे शिष्ये विद्यमानः दृढसङ्कल्पः कियान् बलिष्ठः स्यात् इति गुरुणा अवगतम् ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)

In a gurukula, five disciples were studying. One of them was blind but worked hard. One day, the teacher asked: ‘What is the strongest force in the world?’. The first disciple said ‘weapons,’ the second ‘iron,’ the third ‘fire,’ and the fourth ‘water’. The blind disciple replied: ‘There are many powerful things in the external world, but stronger than all material forces is firm determination. Determination can control weapons, melt iron, extinguish fire, and turn water into vapor that rises to the sky’. From this answer, the teacher realized how powerful the blind disciple’s inner resolve truly was.
