'आकाशस्य आधारः एव नास्ति । निराधारः आकाशः ममोपरि पतेत् चेत् मम का गतिः ?’ इति कश्चन बालकः स्वस्य चिन्तनं कस्मैचित् संन्यासिने अवदत् । मन्दहासं प्रकटयन् संन्यसी बुभुक्षाग्रस्तं बालकं 'भिक्षायाचनं कृत्वा आहारं प्राप्य बुभुक्षां निवारय' इति असूचयत् । भिक्षायाचनाय गतः बालकेन किमपि न प्राप्तम् । नितरां खिन्नेन तेन ग्रामात् बहिः कश्चन उटजः प्राप्तः । तत्र काचित् माता तस्मै प्रीत्या भोजनं दत्तवती । प्रवृत्तं सर्वं यदा बालकः संन्यासिनम् अवदत् तदा संन्यासी प्रत्यवदत् 'तया मात्रा यादृशं प्रेम दर्शितं तादृशं प्रेम, वात्सल्यं, परोपकारः, दया, करुणा इत्यादयः सद्गुणाः एव आकाशस्य आधारः । एते गुणाः यावत् लोके तिष्ठेयुः तावत् आकाशस्य पतनं न संभविष्यति' इति ।

A boy once expressed his wonder to a saint: “The sky has no support. If an unsupported sky were to fall on me, what would happen?” Smiling gently, the saint advised him to beg for food to ease his hunger. The boy tried but received nothing, until a kind mother outside the village lovingly gave him a meal. When he told the saint what had happened, the monk explained: “The love, compassion, kindness, and selfless care shown by that mother are the true supports of the sky. As long as such virtues exist in the world, the sky will never fall”.
