When she plays it, she hears a voice that is not the announcer's—it is the woman's voice, speaking directly to her from forty-seven years ago. The static on the monitors begins to shift, and what emerges from the pattern will change everything.

Luna realizes the room looks familiar—it's the studio's old green room, abandoned for years. She goes to check, carrying a flashlight and a hand mirror from her desk. What she finds in the green room changes everything: the woman is there, breathing, but she doesn't blink. And when Luna speaks to her, the woman's mouth doesn't move—but the monitor back at the desk flickers. Luna returns to the control room to find the static has written words on the screen: a date, a time, and a name. Her name.

I'm there to catalog archived tapes for a public television station, but what I find is a woman's face caught in the test pattern—a face that moves, that mouths words I can almost lip-read. She's been there for thirty years, and she is not a recording. This episode is the beginning of a descent into a very lonely broadcast. I make a mistake that night: I touch the screen. And now I can't stop seeing her.
