内容は興味深いのだが紹介されるテクノロジーが若干古い
テクノロジー、特にインターネットが私たちの脳にどう影響してるかを掘り下げた一冊。ざっくり言うと「ネットばっか使ってると人間は深く考えられなくなるぞ」っていう警告の本です。
著者のニコラス・カーは、昔に比べて集中力が続かなくなったり、長い文章を読むのが辛くなったりするのは、ネットやデジタル機器のせいかも…って話を、脳科学とか歴史とか交えてわかりやすく書いてあります。たとえば「人間の脳はよく使う機能に合わせて形を変える」っていう神経可塑性（ニューロプラスティシティ）の話なんかは特に面白かったです。
ただ、この本が出たのは2010年。紹介されてるテクノロジーが当時の“最新”なので、今読むとちょっと古く感じます。iPodとかSkype・ブログ・Google Waveが最新のテクノロジーとして紹介されてるんですが現在サービス終了してるか廃れてます。今話題の生成AI（ChatGPTとか）には当然触れられてません。
とはいえ、「テクノロジーによって人間の思考そのものが変わってきてるんじゃないか？」っていう核心部分は、今読んでもかなり刺さります。むしろAIが出てきた今こそ、もう一度読み返す価値があるかも。
ネットに触れすぎて集中力落ちてきたと感じてる人には、けっこう響く内容だと思います。
