From a Commodore 64 to the frontlines of cyber warfare... this is twenty-five years of cybersecurity, told by someone who lived every year of it.
The first computer I ever touched was a friend's Commodore 64. I was ten years old. By thirteen, I was copying BASIC code from magazines, debugging programs one mistyped character at a time, and dialing into bulletin board systems with a 9600 baud modem until a $397 phone bill ended my online adventures overnight.
That curiosity never stopped. It just found a mission.
Shepherding Electric Sheep traces the arc of cybersecurity from its earliest days, when viruses were pranks and passwords were "1234," through the rise of nation-state cyber warfare, ransomware epidemics, AI-driven threats, and the dawn of neural integration. Along the way, I share the stories, strategies, and hard-won lessons from more than twenty-five years spent defending networks for the U.S. Department of Defense, Fortune 500 companies, and federal agencies.
This is not a textbook. It is part memoir, part field guide, part conversation. I wrote it the way I wish someone had talked to me when I was starting out... honest, practical, and without the jargon that makes this field feel more exclusive than it needs to be.
