概要
*No One Was Looking* is a fast-paced thriller that interweaves past and present, following three ordinary people who stumble onto a decades-old conspiracy that powerful families will kill to protect.
**THE STORY:**
Jordan, a bookstore owner in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, receives an unsettling message from Alex Chen, a college friend they haven't heard from in years. The message contains only GPS coordinates pointing to an abandoned mine in West Virginia and a photo of a 1998 newspaper article about Rebecca Hartley, a 19-year-old who supposedly died of exposure in the mountains. When Alex stops responding, Jordan is forced to investigate.
The trail leads Jordan to discover that Alex was following the research of Emma Reyes, a graduate student who recently vanished after uncovering connections between the Hartley case and a web of corruption involving the Mercer and Donnelly families—two dynasties that have controlled local law enforcement and mining operations for three generations.
As Jordan digs deeper, they realize Alex has been taken. Racing against time, Jordan travels to the remote mine site, where they're captured and imprisoned in the same location where Emma was held. Through a desperate escape and with help from Alex (who Jordan manages to find) and Alex's friend Jordan, the three gather evidence of kidnapping, murder, and systematic cover-ups spanning 26 years.
What follows is a harrowing cat-and-mouse chase through the mountains as they're pursued by Marcus Donnelly's enforcers, Sheriff Clayton Mercer's deputies, and the full weight of a conspiracy that has successfully buried its secrets for decades. The protagonists must reach safety, expose the truth, and ensure their evidence reaches someone who can't be silenced—all while being hunted by people with everything to lose.
