What’s the best news you’ve ever received?
Good news is fun to remember. But it often gets overshadowed. Bad news sells better, so the commercial news outlets are filled with bad news—all the time.
Politics is a bad news sport. Recession. Climate change. Trouble in the Middle East. Or Russia. Or South America. Again.
And then it gets personal. You took a pay cut. Or worse, your job was cut. Or your company is moving to Texas—or to India—and they are not taking you with them— or they are!
Or your husband is leaving. Or your wife. Or the cancer came back. Again. You had to confess to an indiscretion. Or an affair. Or two.
And you realize the bad news in your own soul is worse than anything on CNN or FOX.
And that’s why Paul wrote his letter to the Romans. Though Rome ruled the world, Rome was a mess. Paul wrote his letter to bring them good news—the gospel. It’s about God saying, “Here’s good for you!”
