An extraordinary family saga spanning more than 75 years, from the aftermath of the Second World War to modern Britain

London, 1946. Hope Kiffin and her childhood friend Eunice have left Antigua for a new life in Britain. But when Hope makes the painful decision to send her baby daughter home in Eunice's care, a moment at Tilbury Docks changes all their lives for ever.

The baby disappears. Overcome with guilt, Eunice abandons her old identity and becomes Faith, while Hope believes that both her friend and her child have been lost at sea. Yet the missing baby has survived. Found by Gloria and Clement, she is raised as their daughter Joy – unaware of the secret that connects three families.

From this devastating beginning unfolds an epic story of love and betrayal, separation and reunion, identity and belonging – and a powerful chronicle of the African-Caribbean experience in post-war Britain. Across more than seven decades, Hope, Faith, Gloria, Joy and their descendants make homes, raise families and fight for their place in a country being transformed around them.

Their stories take them through the Windrush era, the Bristol Bus Boycott and the racial tensions of the 1960s, on through the social and political upheavals of subsequent decades and into the 21st century, where questions of citizenship, memory and belonging acquire a new urgency. As one generation gives way to the next, the struggle for equality and belonging continues, culminating in the fight for Joy's right to remain in the country she has called home for almost 70 years.

Written by acclaimed Black British playwrights Roy Williams, Rex Obano, Winsome Pinnock and Carol Russell, this ambitious BBC Radio 4 drama places African-Caribbean lives at the heart of Britain's post-war story, combining the emotional intimacy of a family saga with a sweeping portrait of social and cultural change.

The outstanding ensemble cast includes Danielle Vitalis, Shiloh Coke, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Martins Imhangbe, Stefan Adegbola and Gary Beadle.

Powerful, moving and richly characterised, this definitive collection brings together the complete story of Faith, Hope and Glory for the first time: an epic full-cast drama about the secrets that bind families together, the choices that echo across generations and the changing face of modern Britain.
