In this episode, we learn how the Post-it Note began with Spencer Silver’s “failed” attempt to create a strong adhesive, which instead produced a reusable, removable adhesive with no obvious purpose. We discover that years later, Art Fry connected Silver’s adhesive to his problem of bookmarks falling out of his hymnal, showing how ideas can become useful when the right person or opportunity comes along. We see that creating is not always a straight path to success, because sometimes we need to be patient with unfinished ideas, unexpected results, and failures that may have hidden potential. We are reminded not to be too quick to discard our ideas, because what seems useless today may become valuable tomorrow.
