Hours before the sun set on March 3, 2020, a tornado touched down near the Hendersonville city limit in Sumner County, Tennessee, at 2:31 PM Central Time. A warning had been in effect for seventeen minutes, and radar showed a pronounced hook echo. This episode reconstructs an EF2 tornado with peak winds estimated at 130 miles per hour, a narrow storm about three hundred yards wide that stayed on the ground for more than six miles, carving through a corridor of subdivisions and small businesses. The timeline follows the storm past the intersection of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard and Main Street at 2:35 PM and out toward Gallatin by 2:38 PM, while students at nearby schools sheltered in hallways and the roof of an empty portable classroom was torn away. The documentary also examines why the damage looked worse than the rating, in a community where homes sit on crawlspaces rather than cellars.
