Some testimonies arrive with fire and thunder. Others arrive with the quiet hum of a vacuum cleaner.

This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a man born two blocks behind the church he would spend thirty years running from. Probation by the age of eleven. Three prison sentences. A father figure murdered when he was eight, a mother taken, and a moral compass he tried for decades to drown out. And underneath all of it, a mother who would not stop praying.

His is the story of a vow made on his knees in a county jail cell before he even knew his sentence — of a Bible read more than forty times inside — and of a limp back through the sanctuary doors of the very church he had once been chased out of. Not saved by thunder, but by the patient, unglamorous work of a God who was never once in a hurry.

And of the lessons a redeemed man began to learn when he picked up a vacuum cleaner and started tending an altar.
