Welcome back to The Worst Friends Podcast! 🎙️
This week we're joined by the incredible Nana Muthomi a fashion model, business owner, and proudly "fun employed" creative whose journey proves that sometimes the best opportunities find you when you least expect them.
Nana takes us all the way back to her childhood, sharing hilarious stories about being an adventurous outside kid (including the unforgettable time she escaped her crib just to eat dog food 😂). She also introduces us to her dog, Saint, who somehow loves omenaa, and even asks us for recommendations on the best places to try it!
We dive into her upbringing, growing up with a lawyer father and a mother from the corporate world while she chose to pursue a completely different artistic path. Inspired by Victoria's Secret, Nana explains that she never actually planned on becoming a model modeling found her.
While studying in London, she walked past a photoshoot and was unexpectedly approached by a modeling agency. That chance encounter completely changed the direction of her life. She also opens up about struggling with body confidence growing up despite being voted "Most Likely to Model" in school because of her height.
We also discuss:
✨ Landing her first modeling job (and wearing heels professionally for the very first time)
✨ Booking Primark shortly after her debut shoot
✨ Appearing as the lead model in LILMAINA's latest music video "Nataka"
✨ Becoming the face of an Uncover billboard without even knowing she'd been selected
✨ The difficult period she went through before her career breakthrough
✨ Why detaching from outcomes helped attract her biggest opportunities
✨ The emotional moment she appeared on THREE Vogue pages
✨ Why she doesn't consider herself a celebrity or influencer
✨ Balancing business, work, and a growing modeling career
Nana also gives flowers to her biggest supporter her mum and shares stories about her siblings, including her younger brother, a Muay Thai fighter currently training in Thailand for his first professional fight.
This episode is filled with laughs, inspiring moments, behind-the-scenes stories from the fashion industry, and proof that one unexpected opportunity can completely change your life.
