概要

 Outside Dry Fork, West Virginia, on a rain-slicked highway in November 1972, the Last Call Motel sits where no map marks it. I pulled over that night, drawn by a neon vacancy sign flickering in the fog. The lobby smelled of damp carpet and something older, something sweet. The jukebox in the corner played a song I'd never heard—a woman's voice, low and cracked, asking for someone to come home. The manager didn't mention it. The other guests, the ones I saw through half-open doors, didn't seem to hear it either. But I heard it. I heard it all night, and when I left the next morning, I carried that song in my head. It's still there. I've looked for it on every record, every radio station, every archive I can find. It doesn't exist. But I know her voice. I know she's still waiting in that motel, singing to anyone who stops long enough to listen.
