概要

October 1997. Luna's neighbor, old Mr. Pendrake, carves a pumpkin every year and sets it on his porch. But this year, the pumpkin doesn't rot. It doesn't collapse. It doesn't even soften. Luna watches it for weeks, noticing the face changing subtly each night. The candle inside never burns out, and the grin widens. When she finally asks Mr. Pendrake about it, he tells her he carved it from a pumpkin he grew in his own garden, from seed he found in a desiccated gourd at a roadside stand off Route 22. She dreams of that face. Then one night, the pumpkin is gone. And Mr. Pendrake's porch light is off. And never comes back on.
