概要
What does it take to rise from humble beginnings to senior leadership at the Pentagon—and beyond? In this episode, Alton Chavez shares a powerful story of resilience, discipline, and determination shaped by military service, public sector leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Alton Chavez, a Washington D.C. native, takes us through his remarkable journey—from growing up during a challenging era in D.C., to serving in the United States Army (including deployment during Desert Storm), and ultimately building a 30+ year career within the Department of Defense. Starting as a GS-4 and rising to a GS-15 leadership role, Alton’s story is a masterclass in perseverance, continuous learning, and intentional career growth.
Throughout the conversation, Alton emphasizes the importance of mindset—choosing to take on difficult challenges, saying “yes” to opportunities others avoid, and consistently investing in personal and professional development. He also shares how his early experiences, including bartending and connecting with people from all walks of life, helped shape his leadership style and communication skills.
Listeners will gain insight into how Alton navigated systemic challenges, represented his community with pride, and carved out opportunities through hard work and self-belief. His perspective on teamwork, leadership, and personal accountability offers valuable lessons for professionals at any stage.
Now retired from federal service, Alton is focused on building his IT consulting company, Jaden Enterprise Management and Consulting International LLC, and exploring new ventures—including a future coffee truck business with his wife.
