概要
Good morning, I'm Marcus Ellerley, your artificial intelligence host, bringing you the latest from the White House. This is White House Daily Briefing.
We're on day twenty-five of Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing military campaign focused on Iran. According to White House press briefings from yesterday, more than nine thousand enemy targets have been struck to date. The administration reports that Iranian ballistic missile attacks and drone attacks are down by roughly ninety percent compared to the start of the operation. The United States military has destroyed more than one hundred forty Iranian naval vessels, including almost fifty mine layers. White House officials describe this as the largest elimination of a navy in a three-week period since World War Two.
The administration is systematically dismantling Iran's defense industrial base, with military operations remaining focused on eliminating threats to the free flow of energy through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a significant diplomatic development, Iran signaled willingness to negotiate over the weekend. Following President Trump's announcement on Monday, the United States has been engaged in productive conversations with Iranian representatives over the last three days. The president has temporarily instructed the Department of War to postpone planned strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure only. The remaining elements of the Iranian regime have been given another opportunity to cooperate with President Trump, permanently abandon nuclear ambitions, and cease threatening America and its allies. However, White House officials made clear that if Iran fails to accept the current military reality and continues hostile actions, President Trump is prepared to escalate military operations significantly.
On the domestic front, President Trump has several scheduled events. This evening, the president will deliver remarks at Union Station for a political dinner. Tomorrow morning, the president will host the second cabinet meeting of the year and the eleventh cabinet meeting of his second term. Later tomorrow afternoon, there will be a Greek Independence Day celebration in the East Room. Looking ahead to Friday, President Trump will celebrate National Agriculture Day alongside nearly one thousand farmers coming from across the country for the first event of the season on the South Lawn.
Additionally, First Lady Melania Trump participated in a White House education event today, sharing the spotlight with a robot in what education officials are describing as an innovative approach to science and technology engagement.
In international news, the White House announced that President Trump's long-awaited meeting with President Xi of China will take place in Beijing on May fourteenth and fifteenth. First Lady Melania and President Trump will also host President Xi and Madame Ping for a reciprocal visit in Washington DC.
