概要

Ag officials are urging producers – in the midst of a nightmare – to track their losses. The USDA Farm Service Agency says livestock producers who lost animals, grazing, or feed may qualify for disaster assistance. The Livestock Indemnity Program, or LIP, provides payments for livestock deaths beyond normal mortality caused by adverse weather. Another program, ELAP, offers emergency assistance for feed or water shortages and other wildfire-related losses. Producers are encouraged to document everything — including livestock death losses, photos or video, rendering receipts, feed purchases, water hauling costs, and records showing livestock had to be removed from grazing. Losses must be reported to local USDA Farm Service Agency offices by March 1st of 2027 for 2026 disaster claims.
