概要

In Caesar’s Coin, God’s Image, Pastor Cathal Duffy explores Mark 12:13–17, where Jesus is confronted by Pharisees and Herodians attempting to trap Him with a politically explosive question about paying taxes to Caesar.

Jesus’ masterful response — “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” — exposes hypocrisy and reorients the conversation from politics to identity.

The coin belonged to Caesar because it bore his image. Humanity belongs to God because we bear His image (Genesis 1:27). The sermon moves from civic responsibility to spiritual ownership, reminding believers that while Christians are called to honour governing authorities (Romans 13), ultimate allegiance belongs to God.

The message culminates in the gospel: we are not saved by what we render to God, but by what God reckons to us — the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Obedience flows from redemption, not from a desire to earn acceptance.
