Reflection: What Wholeness Looks Like
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you… Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
— Matthew 5:43–48
When we hear perfect, we often think flawless.
But the Greek word the Gospel writer uses — τέλειος (teleios) — means mature, whole, complete.
Jesus is not asking us to be without mistakes.
He is calling us to grow up in love.
If we love only those who love us back, our love is still partial.
If we embrace only our own, our love is still small.
God’s love is whole.
It rises like the sun on the good and the evil.
It falls like rain on the just and the unjust.
We become whole
when our love becomes whole.
Not flawless.
But whole.
I’m Horace McMillon.
This is 60 Seconds of Hope.
Peace be with you.
