Reaching for Agreement — Part 3 What Pulls Us Apart

“Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement… knit together in the same mind and the same purpose.”

— 1 Corinthians 1:10

What most often threatens our shared purpose is not disagreement—it is fear.

Fear tells us there is not enough.

Not enough safety.

Not enough grace.

Not enough room for everyone.

Fear convinces us that if someone else is lifted up, we must be pushed aside. That if someone else is welcomed, we must be losing something.

But scripture gives us a measure that leads us in another direction.

The mind of Christ is not shaped by scarcity, but by abundance.

The purpose of God is not rooted in fear, but in love.

When we forget who we are, fear fills the gap.

But when we remember that we belong to one another, love finds its way back in.

Agreement grows when we choose trust over suspicion, generosity over self-protection, and love over fear.

This is how we are knit together—one faithful choice at a time.
