After a tense encounter with a visiting police officer, complicated by Mr. Avery’s gun, authorities eventually raid the home, resulting in the narrator’s rescue and the arrest of the couple. The narrative concludes with the survivor reflecting on the profound and lasting psychological trauma inflicted by the ordeal.
