  • Episode 12 - Delivering The Birth You Want
    2021/02/08

For the last episode of the MotherRucker podcast, I had the absolute delight of interviewing Georgia Allen and Sheridan Thomas the founders of MyMidwivesUK. They are blazing a trail through the birthing world as they campaign for equality for BAME birthing parents, fight systemic racism within our healthcare system and they absolutely advocate sling use too. Have a listen to these inspiring women and if you're in the Greater Manchester area you can book them to be your Midwives.

  • Episode 10 - The Science of Carrying
    2020/11/18

My good friend Zoë Woodman joins me this week as she shares her amazing research into the Science of Carrying. With a degree in Psychology and her Carrying training, she is uniquely positioned to be able to draw links between the academic world (as more and more research is done on infant development) and the impact carrying has upon our young. We discuss brain plasticity, how to build happier brains, the anthropological evidence of how carrying is cemented in our ancestry, the impact carrying and close touch have upon Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how carrying naturally leads to a more responsive parent and therefore deepens the bond between parent and child.

I apologise for the sound quality in this episode, I realised at the end I'd knocked a dial on my mixer - I've tried to fix as best I can.

    2020/09/09

This week Lysanne is joined by the brilliant Dr Rosie Knowles. A practising GP, Rosie has authored the book "Why Babywearing Matters" from the Pinter & Martin series as well as founding the website https://www.carryingmatters.co.uk with a treasure trove of informative articles all about carrying. In this episode we discuss the fourth trimester, the first three months of a baby's life, and why carrying is so vital for their (and our!) survival. Carrying is our biological norm as a species and Rosie goes into lots of detail about the biological and physiological effects of carrying on both the child and the wearer. Enjoy!
