  • JAKE HUFFMAN • Bonus Tracks #27
    2023/02/15

On this episode of Bonus Tracks, Greg sits down with JAKE HUFFMAN to talk about his new single MARTYR.

Connecticut born and bred artist Jake Huffman creates a euphoric realm of indie pop rock, bringing his anthemic energy to a global audience. As lead vocalist and drummer, the multi-instrumentalist was previously known for his time in the viral alt rock band, McLovins. Having taken the time to rediscover who he is as a solo artist, Huffman returns with a complete arsenal of new music, all of which has been entirely written, performed and produced by Jake himself.

His latest single “Martyr” was written, recorded and produced at the world renowned PowerStation New England Studio and forms a cohesive ode to his upcoming EP. With compelling discourses, the track explores a commentary about dying on a hill, as he explains, “The lyrics aren’t about what I personally believe. Everywhere I look people are spouting their beliefs while contradicting themselves in the same breath. The world has become so polarizing and I wanted this song to encapsulate that energy.” With the perfect punch of redemption, his musicality comes to life. Huffman's anthemic vocal energy rises atop crashing choruses, soaring melodies and the alt-rock infused rhythms he's been known to possess. With broadening soundscapes and truly impeccable capability, it’s Huffman’s hope that listeners will take what they need from the song, as he explores a journey into creativity. Accompanied by a sound that pulls deep from his rock roots and reaches far into what can only be described as the sound of the 20’s, his latest single consolidates his status as an exceptional talent.

Huffman’s latest project is an amalgamation of his musical influences and vast heritage of experience. At the age of 14, Huffman and his band McLovins posted on YouTube a cover of Phish’s “You Enjoy Myself” from his parents basement in Connecticut. Overnight the video went viral and sparked a rabid following of fans around the world. Since then, he has shared the stage with Blink-182, Foster The People, BB King and The Flaming Lips.

Huffman has garnered humbling praise from the likes of the Rolling Stone, US Weekly, NPR and legendary XPN Radio Programming Director and DJ Bruce Warren, as well as also having caught the attention of Emmy, Grammy and Tony award-winning producer and composer Bill Sherman (Hamilton, In The Heights, Sesame Street) and Glee producer Michael Novick. Meanwhile on television, the musician has left an imprint as a composer and lyricist for Sesame Street, writing dozens of songs for artists like Ed Sheeran and Leon Bridges. With plenty more on the horizon, it looks like 2023 will be an explosive year for Jake Huffman.

  • SINGLE BY SUNDAY • Bonus Tracks #26
    2023/02/14

On this episode of Bonus Tracks, Greg sits down with SINGLE BY SUNDAY to talk about their new single SEVERED TIES (Out 17 February).

‘Single By Sunday’ are a Pop Rock band from Glasgow. Core band members, Josh Ladds (lead vocals) and Jonny Eakins (lead guitar, backing vocals) are great believers in not being genre specific. "What's the point in having different musical influences and not experimenting with them. We prefer to be genre fluid, so you can hear different influences" - Jonny Eakins. Formed in 2015, they cite early Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, 5 Seconds of Summer and The 1975 as some of their influences.

Raucous guitars, vocal melodies, fun and tons of energy are all prerequisite at ‘Single By Sunday’ live shows. With a millennial brashness and a swagger all of their own, they pay homage to some of the mid-eighties Pop Punk bands.

Having opened the prestigious Scottish Music Awards, they have also headlined the Boston MA ‘First Night’ celebrations (at the request of NBC10 Boston) to a staggering 50k+ people. They also played Vans Warp tour in Buffalo NY alongside 3OH!3, Asking Alexandria, Waterparks, Palaye Royale etc.

  • ALIENBLAZE • Your Life the Mixtape: Bonus Tracks #22
    2023/01/18

On this episode of Bonus Tracks, Greg sits down with ALIENBLAZE to talk about her singles Not Yours Never Was and Romantically Dead.

AlienBlaze is a 20 year old mad as hell singer/songwriter and lead guitarist crafting genre-fluid anthems resulting in a fascinating hybrid of everything from dark alternative pop, grunge and emo, to rock and electronic elements. Her dominating presence emits an angsty appeal, encouraging a sense of self-empowerment to her young audience.

In her school years, AlienBlaze spent most of her time at home through sickness, so spent hours and hours learning the electric guitar on her mum’s Gibson U2, wanting to play like her guitar inspirations Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains and Slash. Blaze’s sense of alienation from her peers, is what inspired her to add the ‘alien’ part to her name as an artist.

Finding influence from artists like Billie Eilish and Ashnikko to bands such as The Cure, Alice in Chains and Bring Me The Horizon, AlienBlaze has crafted a vision which embodies the spirit of music that has inspired her whilst creating her own completely unique sound. Covering topics such as the everyday experiences of a young adult, to more poetic themes including pathetic fallacy and imagery from nature, AlienBlaze delivers her message in a way that allows listeners from all walks of life to interpret it.

Since only uploading her first song to Spotify in 2019, she has received attention from numerous Spotify editorial playlists, garnering hundreds of thousands of plays. She has also had praise from the likes of Oli Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon), Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari), Grimes and Ellie Roswell (Wolf Alice). Her music then reached the attention of Sumerian Records and she signed with the label in November 2021.

She explains, “I consider my music to be slightly ‘genre-fluid’ because I take inspiration from many different sources. I like my lyrics to be poetic and different, and hopefully everyone can relate to the sentiment in the songs.” With a name like AlienBlaze, the young musician takes listeners into an undiscovered cosmos, staying true to her ethos of, “I don’t want realism. I want magic!”

  • JEREMIAH MOON • Your Life the Mixtape: Bonus Tracks #21
    2022/11/28

On this episode of Bonus Tracks, Greg sits down with JEREMIAH MOON to talk about the video for his song Housesitting.

Jeremiah Moon's music bears the mark of the musicians that inspired it, channeling the energy of a diverse list of influences that range from Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Thom Yorke, Blake Mills, Sufjan Stevens, Claude Debussy, and Nick Cave, to Mahler, Dvorak, Stravinsky, Ravel, and the poetry of Christian Wiman, all while simultaneously carving its own path.

The son of a classically trained violinist mother, Moon would start taking cello lessons at age 7, playing music (solo, chamber music, and orchestra) all through high school.

After graduating, Moon studied cello performance at Boston University. He recalls, "I started writing my first songs when I was home on summer vacations."

In 2013, Jeremiah moved to Seattle and started accompanying guitarists for live shows and recording sessions, as well as working on his illustration skills and building a portfolio of his work. He says, "I started seriously working on songwriting in 2018 after being challenged by a friend to take myself more seriously as an artist. The 5 songs on my EP were a direct result of the momentum from this burst of inspiration."
