Blessedness. This is all about the beginning of the sermon on the mount that Jesus taught his disciples and the large mass of people that gathered to listen.
We’re discussing the 8 beatitudes this summer, one beatitude at a time, and we’re also looking at them collectively as a whole.
Matthew 5:1-10 NASB
5:1 When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.
5:2 He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,
5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5:5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
5:10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
In this first beatitude, it’s about looking at ourselves. What is the state of our heart? Are we being prideful or humble?
Jesus teaches us how to live a fruitful life. Spoiler alert: we can’t do it without Him.
Join us as we dive into the beatitudes with this first beatitude!
