あらすじ・解説
Damien Rollins had a pretty normal upbringing, except for one notable exception; an almost obsessive love for horror movies. He remembers spending many a night glued to the television with a bowl of popcorn on his lap. He claims that it was all in good fun, and that he never believed a word of any of them, but he has yet to explain why he slept with a night light until age sixteen.
This interest followed him into his teenage years but the demands of adulthood led his mind to be, as he puts it “more grounded in reality”. He came to view stories of paranormal encounters with a skeptical eye, believing them to be a construct of individuals eager for media attention. That was until he had his own out-of-body experience during a routine surgery. Far from being a frightening experience, Damien recalls being surrounded by an overwhelming feeling of love. While this did not lead him to a full-fledged belief in ghosts, it did open his mind to the possibility that some things exist which can't be explained away by science.
An avid traveler, Damien always wanted to visit the Caribbean and got the opportunity to do so a few years ago. He expected to spend his time hitting the beaches but a chance encounter with two older family members of a friend piqued his interest in other pursuits. He was told that several bruises which he could not remember being inflicted were actually bites from the Soucouyant, the local version of the vampire. He was inclined to dismiss this but was struck by the sheer number of stories he heard that night.
His boyhood interest was reawakened and he spent most of his time harassing nearly everyone he met for any information they might have on local superstitions. Over the years he has been lucky enough to visit many more Caribbean islands and has amassed a vast store of data on haunted locations. He has decided to share some of this knowledge with budding paranormal enthusiasts, or even anyone interested in visiting some of the lesser known Caribbean attractions.
