あらすじ・解説

When Inspector Shanti de Silva moves with his English wife, Jane, to his new post in the sleepy hill town of Nuala, he anticipates a more restful life than police work in the big city entails. However an arrogant plantation owner with a lonely wife, a crusading lawyer, and a death in suspicious circumstances present him with a riddle that he will need all his experience to solve.

Set on the exotic island of Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) in the 1930s, Trouble in Nuala is an entertaining and absorbing mystery spiced with humor and a colorful cast of characters.

Hope it will be a series

Great story. Great characters and an excellent narration. The main character is always getting English idioms wrong. Very Cute! He was standing by his rifles. And his wife says guns dear you stand by your guns.

1930s Island of Ceylon Mystery

Near India and what is now the island of Sri Lanka, British occupied Ceylon is the setting of this interesting mystery series. Inspector Shanti de Silva and his British wife, Jane come to the small town of Nuala expecting a quiet existence, but that doesn’t quite pan out for them. Asked to investigate the treatment of a tea plantation worker, Inspector de Silva visits the plantation and finds the owner just as mean as was described to him, but the injured worker is no where to be found. But soon that’s the least of de Silva’s worries . . . the plantation owner himself turns up dead. Rich with the atmospheric descriptions of 1930s British Colonial Ceylon including scenery of tea plantations and native wildlife, this story evokes a different time and place. Inspector de Silva’s search leads him to places he’d rather not go, but ever the seeker of justice, he is faithful to look for the truth. This is a different and fun listen and the mystery is tied up nicely.

Terrific narrator!

Ceylon, 1930s, law-enforcement, lawyers *****

1930s Ceylon, the police, the overbearing British, and murder. It's not hard to figure out who will be the victim, but the who and how are posers til the end of the book! An excellent listen on its own merit, but listening to Matthew Lloyd Davies is a real treat.

Very enjoyable!

A lovely gentle thriller with shades of Ms Christy.
It brought lovely memories of Ceylon and my time there. I loved the narrators portrayal of late Raj types, their customs and accents. Whodunnit was not much of a mystery, but it didn’t need to be. I’m a new convert to Leslie Wolfe’s work and look forward to more books.
