あらすじ・解説

Crisis! An explosive public meltdown. A violent incident in the psychiatric ward.

Now, the pastor stares into the abyss of his own secret shame. Before he can be free, he must confront his demons and find grace. But will he let go? Will he allow himself to be healed?

The Pastor explores the perilous human journey from self-will and striving, through defeat and despair, to hope and the redemption found only through surrender.

Trigger warning: mature themes.

A Phenomenal Parable Poorly Performed

This is one of my favorite books I've read this year, but I really wish I had read the hardcover instead. I'm not sure if it was the voice direction, the voice actors or both; but the resulting performances by the cast range between underacting and going way overboard. The Pastor himself is mostly passable except in the more weepy moments; but many of the others left a lot to be desired.

Now the problem is not the voice cast approach, in fact the story is perfect material for an audio drama or a stage play even. This story deserves a really good production, and I was excited to hear the story be not only read but acted, Unfortunately, the execution did not deliver as I hoped.

So please read the book! But do yourself a favor and get a physical copy.

Intense

Thankfully I listened to Brad Jersak and Paul Youngs review of this story and I understand the message that was being conveyed . The story as performed by the readers was excellent. However, for me it was too intense enough so it left me with a couple of nightmares. I'm spiritually sensitive anyway, and the darkness that was portrayed affected me. I love Brad Jersak and Paul Youngs books and testimony. The good they are doing in the area of healing the brokeness of so many is so needed . Hopefully others will find truth and healing in this story and won't be negatively impacted by the intensity of the spiritual darkness that is being confronted.

“Lord, Have Mercy”

A lot of (digital) ink will be spilled deriding this story.
What is everyone so afraid of?
The truths that the Holy Spirit revealed to me while reading this book are profound, and am so grateful to have read it.
The writing was unusually excellent for this genre and the performance was very moving.
So read it. What are you afraid of? “Fear not, for Love is with you.”

Wonderful inner healing!

This book enables us to look deep into the roots of our behavior to who we believe we are, thus reflected in our thoughts, emotions, behavior. It helped me to look deep into fear and God's healing love and forgiveness.
Thank You, Jesus!

Expected More

I struggled to finish this book. It wasn't what I had expected after having read The Shack, Crossroads, and Eve. I expected more.

Worth the Time

Great stuff. I will be chewing on this for awhile. Can the American church and the people who operate it be redeemed? Are we willing to submit to the pain of the process?

This is a short book so it has to work through the story quickly by relying on dialogue/monologue to move us from beginning to end. This book is about the pastor's inner journey of restoration with Love. I would love to see more volumes on the forgiveness and restoration process with the pastor, his family and his community.

Thanks to the authors for paying the price and putting this out there for Love's sake.

Woah...

"The Pastor: A Crisis,"by Brad Jersak and Paul Young, has to be one of the deepest works I have encountered. It takes a rare path of not the victim being lead through the stages of healing (like the Shack) but for the perpetrator. Of course, we all have our sin, we all have to be forgiven, and we all must be "salted with fire."

There were moments I despised the main character, but I realized that I was merely being drawn into the way he felt about himself due to his shame. Also, there was a moment I had to stop listening and take a break because of the intensity of "The Accuser." I had never had to take a break from listening to a story, but the amount of detail and the story-telling was well done.

The discourse at the end by the pastor was my favorite part of this story. Him speaking about how love and fire are related is a message that so many need to hear. I highly recommend this book!

A Heavy, Hard Listen About Real Grace

Wonderfully done and also hard to hear, this is a powerful depiction of grace in Christ!

A very different style

I was quite shocked at the beginning and discovered in the style of the book. It is explicit and detailed in the events depicted. however, again shows us the story of a man who gains forgiveness grace and love by God.

a little underwhelming

I was expecting more after reading other young and jersak books

Might be better to read this in book form as the voice actors take away from the story.

The voice for the character who represents Jesus was really frustrating.

if you're new to trinitarian thinking this might be great, but no ground breaking themes for me personally.
