Outdated unhelpful

This book is written by a pediatrician however the advice is just that advice. It is very repetitive, as a Foster parent I found the unrelenting and repetitive advice to breastfeed condescending and unhelpful. I would look at evidence based books which have been far more helpful for me. check out Brain rules for babies or caring for your newborn by Dennis Kuo

tons of amazing information! Would highly suggest

I am a father of two. This book helped me a ton in giving me ideas on how and what to do. It was never forceful or told me that I had to do things just gave me great options and ideas.

Informative and....LONG!!

What did you like best about The Baby Book? What did you like least?

The author has a lot of experience and some very good direction on raising a child.

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

NO

What three words best describe Mel Foster and Sherry Adams Foster ’s performance?

Okay, Decent, Vocal ;)

Was The Baby Book worth the listening time?

No, I bought this book when my wife was 8 months pregnant and finished it last week. Our daughter just graduated from high-school. (not true)

Any additional comments?

The advice is spot on but very repetitive.

Great overview of everything you wondered about!

Wonderful book that touches on just about everything you need to know about having a baby and how to take care of your baby for the first couple years, especially from a physical health perspective. The book is really practical with many interesting and scientifically validated takeaways. Highly recommend for anyone!

Not for me.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was great to help me prepare for labor.... After that, it was FULL of opinions, which clashed what I learned from my own pediatrician... Which is surprising considering the authors are a pediatrician and a midwife. The book is BIG on co-sleeping but my pediatrician strongly discouraged it due to an increased SIDS risk for an infants first 6 months of life. They also strongly recommend not using pacifiers... again my pediatrician strongly recommending using a pacifier because it can reduce the risk of SIDS.

Would you recommend The Baby Book to your friends? Why or why not?

They warn you going into the book that you should do what feels right to you. And a good bit of the advice just seemed backwards to me. Most of the content of the book was very long winded.... it was almost easier to scan the chapter titles and search online to read about what the book was about because there was almost so much detail about one thing, it was boring and easily caused you to lose interest.... especially if you don't listen to the book in one sitting.

If you plan on a natural birth at home, co-sleeping, and breastfeeding, this book is for you. If you plan on using a bassinet and/or crib, pacifiers, or bottle feeding I wouldn't recommend. The tone of the book is almost condescending if you do decide not to do those things. This book did convince me to breastfeed my baby and we did very well with it. This book helped us

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mel Foster and Sherry Adams Foster ?

Sherry Adams Foster was pretty good. Mel Foster spoke with a monotone that quickly put me to sleep when I listened to this. If he spoke with some more enthusiasm it would be much better.

Any additional comments?

This was hands down the most painful audio book I have ever listened to. I have listened to many other baby books with no problem. In retrospect, I should have purchased this book as an e-book or hard copy to scan through rather than have listened to this.

As far as the content, it did convince me to breastfeed and taught me some additional benefits that I did not learn during searches online.

best baby book!!!

It's very detailed and covers various topics. I started listening at 5 mths pregnant during my work hours. It is lengthy but the most thorough baby book I've heard. I recommend starting early and taking your time with it. I enjoyed listening to the Dr. suggestions and his writing style. He is not pushy. He is very informative and shares what has worked for other parents and his family. I ended up buying a physical copy to review a second time and bookmark/highlight the pages most important to me.

Too long and not informative

Struggled to finish. Despite being very long the book provides very little information.

for example chapter about breastfeeding. Is nearly 2 hours long and it contains just one simple idea. breastfeeding is good. that's it. and two hours talking about nothing.

The narrator kills it

There is no way you can listen to this whole book narrated the way it is. My husband thought it was a robot!! Probably very good material but will be returning this book because I can not get through the weird sing song narration.

Lived up to the reputation of baby bible

This book is long and thank god it is. Parenting is so complex and subjective that it's hard to summarize it in a book. Of the many books I've read and listened to, I think this one does it the best. In many ways, the book was also a lifesaver. So I recommend it to all new parents.

The only baby book you need to read!

This book is absolutely brilliant!
Focusing on the attachment theory, which is it's the most beautiful, natural and ultimately easiest way to bring up your babies. We all know this deep down as it is instinctive. But we have lost our purest and most beautiful instincts in the society we live in. We have been steered in the direction "baby training" over many years of Western baby raising ideas. This makes the parent/baby experience unnatural, stressful and almost like a game of wills which totally misses the point. This book gives me faith to listen to my maternal instincts and not worry about being judged. What a gift to find this book. Thank you

Simply an amazing overview, keeping to the point and remaining factual..

This book covers all the important areas in a simple concise easily digestible manner and excellently performed by the reader.

Also worth getting the paper version as well for easy referencing during early childhood.

Worth it for the factual stuff alone.

Where does The Baby Book rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I don't know.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There aren't any characters.

How could the performance have been better?

They could have used a narrator that didn't sound like he was doing the voice-over for a romantic comedy trailer.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Nobody would make a film of this book.

Any additional comments?

This book is worth it just for the factual information - on maladies for example - and also the more tried and tested gems that no-one would really argue about.
