Owen Michaels, father and husband, mysteriously disappears in Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me (2021). His wife, Hannah, finds only a note asking her to protect his teenage daughter Bailey, whom he leaves $600,000 in cash before vanishing without a trace. Now Hannah must try to find her husband while managing to comfort her stubborn new stepdaughter, who lost her mother as a child. Soon after, Hannah finds out that Owen’s boss has been arrested, and his company accused of embezzlement and fraud.
Hannah realizes her husband had plenty of lies of his own, and Bailey might be the key to his true identity. Hannah and Bailey then embark on a journey of truth, self-discovery, and commitment.
