Great tools to help you make sense of heartache

After a dating coach taught me a little about attachment theory (and many failed romantic relationships where the men were either abusive, addicted, or non-commital), I picked up this audiobook. I was in yet another unsatisfying relationship with a man I loved but who was unable to commit. I frequently found myself feeling jealous and needy despite my partner's verbal reassurance; I hated the way this made me act and feel, and I wanted to make things easier on him.

Listening this audiobook helped me really delve into the heart of the scripts I tell myself about my own worthiness for love and whether I can depend on or trust a partner. It helped me understand better how to unwind my own anxiety and to communicate my needs to my partner.

I told him I needed periodic reassurance, small check-ins where I knew he was thinking of me, that I needed more quality time together, my need to hear him say he wanted to see me, and my need to have plans in the future together (even if it was a week away). To my surprise, he stepped up and actually did these things, and it really helped!

When we weren't together, I used the techniques in this guide to calm my own anxiety. It greatly, GREATLY increased my relationship satisfaction and closeness to my partner and vice versa.

If you’re insecure in your relationships choose it

I am anxiously attached and this has been an issue in almost all of my relationships. There were several times when I had lightbulb moments listening this audiobook. I kept a journal while I listened it and made notes throughout. I'm going to listen it again so that I can better put the suggestions into practice. I wish that they discuss anxious-anxious relationships because I've been in a couple of those and found that I tend to get avoidant for whatever reason. But when I'm with an avoidant person (or even with a secure person in a long distance relationship, which I am at this moment) I become very anxious and preoccupied. I like how they include stories of other couples as examples. The entire guide was very organized. That said, I feel that it could have been beefed up a bit with more examples of different situations. In any case, 5 stars.

Very Helpful

Well Narrated and organized. I like reading/listening any kind of book that will help with relationships because after-all we all need help in that department, especially when you are married. I don't have anxiety, however, I can see how this guide will help in that area. I picked it up to help with little things that might come up in the marriage that can cause stress. There were some really good points that I will totally put into practice. I know anxiety is a main cause of stress in any relationship so I highly recommend it to anyone who suffers from it as Susanne shows you excellent ways to be able to cope with it and be with a significant other.

Good information

I’m not one to typically write a review, but the reviews for this audiobook are what compelled me to purchase and I’m SO happy I did. This book offers simplistic guidelines on how to identify the root of many personal issues that plague many people in relationships AND offers a neat and easy to follow guideline of how to help curb anxious thoughts and behaviors that sabotage relationships. Consider it a type of manual to identify, address, and curb irrational behavior and thoughts in a relationship. If you struggle with feeling not worthy, or not good enough even though you pour your heart into relationships just to come out on the other with yet again another failure, this audiobook is most definitely or you!

Excellent

This is a very helpful audiobook, especially since anxiety in our society has grown exponentially due to the lockdowns. I’ve personally faced some serious anxiety in relationships, and this guide would have helped me cope. It’s a great resource, well narrated, and very accessible.

Great guide for any relationship

It has helped me improve even my friendships, and relationships with my family. For some reason, this is the guide that flipped the switch in me to be more mindful of the people I allow into my life, and just overall being more careful about how I respond to them in ways that won’t hinder me. I found myself in a very secure relationship after applying some of these tips to my own life and feel myself becoming more secure, in general. It’s not a cure-all... but it is a great tool if you’re ready to understand why you keep getting stuck in certain patterns.
