  • The Chronicle Take 2 (30.5) - Love Lies Bleeding
    2024/05/09

Revenge gets ripped apart in The Chronicle Take 2, the bonus episode for The Chronicle official podcast for The Peoples Movies. As promised, Love Lies Bleeding from Rose Glass.

Thank you very much to everyone who has listened to Episode 30, which was released earlier today. Myself and Clotilde Chinnici reviewed Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver and Challengers. You can listen to that episode by clicking on the link below (if you are on The Peoples Movies) or via the podcast site you are using to listen to this new episode.

After the icy cold unholy terror of Saint Maud, the debut film by Rose Glass, we step back into 1980s New Mexico, USA. Kristen Stewart plays Lou, a gym manager leading a mundane life that is turned upside down when Jacky (Katy O’Brian) walks into the gym. Sparks fly and a full romance blossoms, but Lou has a dark past that catches up with her at the wrong times. Her father, Lou Snr (Ed Haris), just happens to be the local crimelord and Jacky’s employer.

This review was originally written for The Glasgow Film Festival and BFI Flare, and I do mention these festivals in the review.

  • 030 - Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver & Challengers
    2024/05/09

If it’s movies you like, you are in the right place. The Chronicle, episode 030 has now arrived. Paul and Clotilde review two films, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver and Challengers.

First up is Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver. Part one was epic in scale, but an epic failure in what mattered. For Part 2: The Scargiver, the surviving rebels head to Veldt. Sofia Boutella is back as Kora, who now leads her ragtag bunch of warriors defending the moon Vedt against the Imperium. She does have one thing standing inher way, Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein), who has returned from the grave. Was the damage done in part one, or will you give part two a go?

Our final film is Luca Guadagnino's Challengers, starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. The Dune star stars as Tashi Donaldson, a one-time tennis prodigy whose promising career ended prematurely. She would become the coach of her now-husband Art (Faist), a superstar going through acrisis. To boost his reputation, Art enters a local tournament, onlyto come up against Tashi’s former boyfriend, Patrick (O’Connor).

  • 029 - Mothers Instinct & Civil War
    2024/04/20

Welcome back for another episode of The Chronicle, The official Podcast for The Peoples Movies. Paul and Clotilde are your hosts and if you love movies, your in the right place. For episode 029 we review Mothers Instinct and Civil War.

First review we go back to 1960's American Suburbia with Mothers Instinct. Starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain who are neighbours, best friends, sons are like brothers. This starts like as if it was taken from the pages of a Douglas Sirk melodrama, things get dark when tragedy hits. Who is responsible?

What If... is the great Fantasist's wet dream. What if something you would think of could happen did happen? Alex Garland's Civil War is one of those films now in UK and Irish cinemas. The United State now finds itself in it's second civil war and asks you, " what type of American are you?". Kirsten Dunst is veteran photojournalist Lee and mentor to Cailee Spaeney's Jesse as we follow the journalists making their way to Washington DC attempting to get the elusive interview. Is this a war movie? Political movie? a road more or something else?
